13 CHILLS 2011Thirteen Memorable Moments In Horror Film Music1. ..CARRIE (1976) by Pino Donaggio |

By JASON COMERFORD Pino Donaggio’s score to Carrie is one of those rare
examples of the form that is completely inseparable from the film it
supports. The first of six collaborations between Donaggio and director
Brian DePalma, Carrie’s music seems to spring straight from
the thoughts and feelings of the film’s characters. Donaggio, an
Italian-born violinist who turned from pop songwriting to a long and
fruitful career in film music (beginning with Nicholas Roeg’s eerie
1972 chiller Don’t Look Now), cleverly twists his wistful
theme for the film’s tragic title character to the point where its very
placidness seems monstrous.

David Kessler | Carrie is one of the
better Stephen King adaptions made and it was the first filmed and has
a superb score by Donaggio (one of his best i.m.o) The Kritzerland CD released is a great testament to Donaggio's score and was sadly a too fast sell-out in only 1200 units released...A great CD no horror fan should miss out on |

What can I say about one of coolest
and most chilling horror films ever made? Donaggio's score is every bit
as wicked as it is gorgeous, and the Kritzerland release is a godsend
(:P). Oh yeah, the novel's good fun, too! |

This movie is one of those films that scared me, I am not all sure why... she was such an innocent young girl, with such an awful life, no wonder she did what she had to be heard... one voice can make a difference. Now the score, well from what I can remember, played so innocently like the girl, as she shifted, so did the music... which I know is a total "duh" moment. Kind of sweeping of sounds... and well stuck in the seventies...
Jonathan | I just got hold of the 2-Disc set and it arrived the other day. It's still sealed, since I am having a very busy week. But: Can't wait to finally listen to the score with all the praise for it.

Carrie
was definitely one of the best Stephen King adaptations. I've seen all
of the others and most fell short. But Sissy Spacek played the role
perfectly. Scared the crap out of me. |

The movie "Carrie" really freaked me out and made me sad all at the same time! The amazing juxtaposition between her supposedly "religious" mother's horrific words and the cruelty exhibited by her classmates has informed my pondering to this day. I often think of how we should treat one another based on this movie jarring me awake in my teens. Such a tragedy when the blood was spilled upon her head. Carrie was such a sweet girl and needed nurturing love. May we treat each other with more kindness than was shown to her. Peace!

I sadly had to pass on the
Kritzerland release because of lack of spare
cash... maybe I ought to have asked a friend to hold one aside for me,
oh well. I really should go and see this movie. I was always intrigued by its premise (a girl being bullied around) yet I never got around to it. |

This marks the end of the first
week prize period - we are working to get a composer to draw the names
for us to declare the winner and will have the announcement soon.
All comments from this point forward will automatically be entered in
the second week's drawing. Please continue commenting on all the
installments (even these installments for which the prize period has
ended) - the more comments, the more interesting the commentary and
analysis! It would be awesome to round up some film score
enthusiasts who are less prone to appreciate horror and suspense to
hear some of their commentary! Work on your peers to keep the
commentary and debate interesting. |
